CANNESERIES and SPACE launch POV: Europe on Ukraine
A new creative initiative dedicated to Ukrainian stories seen through the eyes of French creators.
As Ukraine’s story increasingly becomes part of Europe’s shared narrative, the question is not only what stories are told, but who tells them, and how they travel across borders.
Through POV: Europe on Ukraine, French writers, directors and producers are invited to engage as creative interpreters of Ukrainian stories — bringing their own artistic voice while connecting with Ukrainian realities.
For this first phase, the initiative focuses on France, whose rich cinematic tradition and strong cultural dialogue with Ukraine make it a natural starting point for this cross-European storytelling collaboration, and a country that has also become a second creative home for SPACE.
The programme aims to encourage the development of new series projects that explore Ukrainian stories from a European perspective, creating space for intercultural dialogue and new creative partnerships.
Selected projects will go through several stages of development and selection, culminating in a final pitch at CANNESERIES 2027, where the winning project will receive a €7,000 award.
Who can apply
Applications are open to:
French writers, directors and producers developing original series projects inspired by Ukrainian stories, themes or realities.
Projects must be at the early development stage and suitable for television or streaming platforms.
What the programme offers
Participants selected for the programme will receive:
Creative visibility within the international TV industry
Selected projects will be presented within the CANNESERIES professional ecosystem and gain exposure to international industry professionals.
Development and mentoring opportunities
Shortlisted participants may take part in workshops, discussions and meetings with Ukrainian industry experts to further develop their projects.
Networking opportunities
Participants will have the opportunity to connect with fellow creators, producers and industry professionals through dedicated networking events.
Final pitch at CANNESERIES
Finalist projects will pitch their series concepts during CANNESERIES 2027, in front of an international jury. The winning project will receive a €7,000 development award.
Application timeline
1 May – 30 June 2026
Open call for projects
Applicants submit a short project synopsis (1–2 pages) presenting the core idea of their series.
July – August 2026
Selection process
The selection committee reviews applications and prepares a shortlist of approximately 10–20 projects.
September – December 2026
Project development stage
Shortlisted participants submit a more detailed project package, including:
Pitch deck (max. 10 pages)
Logline and detailed project description
Synopsis of the pilot episode and further episodes (if available)
Character profiles / character bible
Writer’s statement or note of intent
Short CV
Motivation letter
January – February 2027
Finalist selection
The jury selects 5–10 finalist projects, who will pitch their projects during CANNESERIES 2027.
April 2027 — CANNESERIES
Final pitch
Finalists present their projects at CANNESERIES 2027. The jury selects the winning project, which receives the €7,000 award.

POV: Europe on Ukraine is conceived as a long-term platform for creative collaboration between Ukrainian and European storytellers.
The initiative aims to support new perspectives on Ukraine, encourage intercultural dialogue, and create new opportunities for international co-production and storytelling.
